How long have you been a member of the NASPP?

Nathan: 5 years

How did you end up working on stock compensation?

Nathan: I was first introduced to the world of executive compensation as a field of research when I was in the doctoral program in finance at the University of Arizona. When I departed the U of A, I got lucky that EM was looking for someone that had training in both financial economics as well as computer programming. I started in an entry level analyst position in early 2006 and haven't looked back.

What would you be doing if you didn't work in stock compensation?

Nathan: I have strong analytical skills, so I think it would probably be something in the realm of computer programming or software development, and probably in the finance industry.

What was your college or university major?

Nathan: Political Science, Finance

Name one item you couldn't do your job without:

Nathan: My trust in the incredibly competent and capable team behind me. I am constantly tossing new tasks and projects over my shoulder to them - and they are always there to provide me with support and pick up the ball and run forward with it.

What are your favorite things to do when you aren't working?

Nathan: Family time!

Where is your favorite place to go on vacation?

Nathan: Parents get vacation? Whoa!

Nathan: The Checklist Manifesto, by Atul Gawande

How has being a member of the NASPP helped you?

Nathan: NASPP has been a great resource towards helping me grow as a professional over my time in the equity compensation industry. The annual conference, blog, webcasts, and industry alerts have helped me stay abreast of trending and new areas of interest in the industry, participation in NASPP chapter work has given me one outlet to help advance our industry.
